Possessive Adjectives 

Possessive adjectives are used to indicate the owners of objects in the sentence. This is an English grammar subject that can be easily learned and understood when regular repetition and practice is done.

Each subject has a different possessive adjective. These :

How to Use Possessive Adjectives?


Possessive adjectives are always used before a noun. It is very difficult to understand what the possessed object is when it is not used before the noun in the sentence.
We must be careful not to confuse the words its and it's, which are the possessive adjectives of the subject it. While its is used as the possessive adjective of the subject it, it's is the shortened version of the it is structure when spoken in daily life. It is very important to use these two expressions without mixing them up. Because when mixed, the meanings in the sentence change.

Possessive Adjectives Examples

  • I - My
This is my computer. Bu benim bilgisayarım.
My parents live in Ankara. Benim ebeveynlerim Ankara’da yaşıyor.
My house is the house next to the blue house. Benim evim mavi evin yanındaki ev.

 

  • Your (Senin/Sizin)
Is this your mother? Bu senin annen mi?
What’s your sisters name? Senin kız kardeşinin adı ne?
Are these your pens? Bunlar senin kalemlerin mi?

 

  • His (Onun/Erkek)
His cat is very cute. Onun kedisi çok tatlı.
He lost his bag yesterday. O, dün çantasını kaybetti.
His favorite food is hamburgers. Onun favori yiyeceği hamburgerdir.

 

  • Her (Onun/Kadın)
I met her mother last week.  Geçen hafta, onun annesiyle tanıştım.
Her eyes are green. Onun gözleri yeşil.
She likes to watch TV series in her free time. Boş zamanlarında dizi izlemeyi sever.

 

  • Its (Onun)
The dog is licking its face. Köpek, yüzünü yalıyor.
The watch stopped working because its battery died. Saat çalışmayı durdurdu çünkü pili bitti.
The restaurant is known for its delicious food. Restoran, lezzetli yemekleriyle tanınır. 

 

  • Our(Bizim)
We will go to the match with our friends. Arkadaşlarımızla birlikte maça gideceğiz.
Our house is near the hospital. Bizim ev hastaneye yakın.
Let’s get our jackets, it might rain. Ceketlerimizi alalım, yağmur yağabilir.

 

  • Their (Onların)
Their children go to the same gymnastics course. Onların çocukları aynı jimnastik kursuna gidiyor.
The neighbors are renovating their homes.  Komşular evlerini yeniliyorlar.
They are going to visit their hometown next week. Onlar gelecek hafta memleketlerini ziyarete gidecekler.
